Testimonials
“….Spending the day with Sarah was an amazing experience. She clearly knows the people and stories behind the fragrances and stores, and it showed every time we walked through a door. She also taught me a lot about my current preferences in perfume (big and loud white flowers, please!) and I got a much better understanding of why I’m drawn to certain scents.”
Nicole A.
“I had little time for shopping while on a short business trip to Paris, and Sarah helped me find a wonderful and unique fragrance for my wife.”

Group Perfume Workshops and Panel Discussions:
Through the magic of fragrance sniffing on ‘blotter’ papers’, a power-point presentation, and ‘goodie’ bags full of fragrance samples, I lead participants on a dynamic and imaginative olfactory journey through the world of perfumery.
Equally at ease with large and small audiences, professionals and non-professionals, young and old, I am happy to work with event organizers to tailor my presentations to the specific needs of each audience.
My clients include professional organizations, retail stores, universities, schools, art galleries, tour groups, fund raisers, ‘hen parties’, and other privately organized events in Europe and the US.
Below is a list of current workshop topics
* The History of Perfume
* 18th Century Fragrances in France and Colonial America
* History of American Perfumery
* Bad Girls Perfumes
* The ‘Niche’ Perfume Movement
* Perfume Families
* How A Perfume Is Made
* Famous Perfume Noses and Their Fragrances
* Famous Perfume bottles
* The Great Perfume Classics
* Perfume Raw Materials
* Finding Your OWN Perfume (two days including visits to Paris perfume shops and personal counseling.)

UPCOMING PERFUME WORKSHOPS
Date: Tuesday, March 22, 2017
Workshop Summary:
Through the magic of fragrance sniffing on ‘blotter’ papers and a power-point presentation Sarah leads participants on an imaginative olfactory journey back to the 18th century. Among a variety of fragrances sampled, one, “No. 19” by Caswell-Massey, was a favorite of General George Washington, while another, “The Fragrance Trail of the Queen”, is a modern reconstruction by master perfumer, Francis Kirkdjian, and is based on notes gleaned from Marie Antoinette’s personal perfumer. Participants enjoy smelling and comparing these and other fragrances typical of the period, and savoring a rare glimpse into the little-known perfume dimension of the fabulous and historic time of the American and French Revolutions.

Comments:
* Your presentation was fascinating. The content was so interesting, with the bits about the history of the different perfumes, and being able to smell different scent families. I discovered some perfumes I’d forgotten.
Your knowledge and passion also animated the presentation and made it compelling. I appreciate that you spoke about the role of public relations in fashion journalism, and in particular perfume journalism, since many of the students are PR majors. I was grateful when you told them to follow your heart, but you have to work hard. You are a good role model of not only developing your own niche, but how important it is to keep up with technological changes in the industry.

*Thank you, Sarah. It was a fascinating discussion and we’re looking forward to exploring these possibilities you’ve put together so thoughtfully.

Sarah Colton Panel Moderator

Esxence–The Scent of Excellence, Artistic (niche) Fragrance Exhibit
La Permanente, Milan ITALY
Comments:
Mark Behnke, Managing Editor Ca Fleur Bon
“….The workshop on niche retail strategy is a good example of this kind of overlap as the panel was made up of luminaries in retail like Francois Henin of Jovoy, Roja Dove of his eponymous Haute Parfumerie, and Nicolas Cloutier of Nose. Sarah Colton of The Perfume Magazine and Beauty Fashion moderated the discussion as she deftly sought out opinions from the standing room only audience to stimulate a wide-ranging discussion….”
Amanda Brooke, Director, Grossmith LTD,
” Sarah… had clearly prepared each speaker very well and we all learned a lot….”
Nicolas [Cloutier] (Panel Member and President and co-founder of NOSE)
“Sarah, Silvio was quite lucky to have you 🙂 [as panel moderator].

“Sarah Colton has written professionally about perfume and the fragrance industry for many years, highlighting leading French perfumers and French Perfume Houses. Her vast in depth, hands on experience, and contributions to the fragrance industry make her the perfect presenter. We feel fortunate to be able to bring her to you.”
Pamela Paddock, Asheville, NC USA
“I learned about Etat Libre d’Orange fragrances, among many others, at Sarah Colton’s Perfume Experience Presentation here in Asheville. Not knowing what to expect, besides Sarah at her delightful best, I was blown away by the information and knowledge she brought to the experience….delivered in a light, easy, and elegant way.
When I heard the story of the House of Etat Libre d’Orange….learned about the fragrances, then EXPERIENCED” the fragrances. I was sold!
My favorite Etat Libre d’Orange fragrance is the Eau de Protection – Rossy de Palma. I literally swoon thinking about that heady, delicious, and completely captivating fragrance. Sometimes I wear it to bed….all by myself, because I am enveloped in an “eau de Protection” and a cloud of delight when I ease into Dreamland.”
